Day 2: Estamos Aqui!

What a gift - to be dropped in the middle of a delightful family in a small, rural Cuban town, Quirican. We are staying in the house owned by our Cuban friends, Ivan and Yasi, and being warmly hosted by Yasi's parents, Isobel and Francisco, and her cousin, Jusniel (j like a y and a silent s). Note Francisco's Tblazer hat.

Isobel made an excellent meal...

and Francisco did all the finish work in the house (note Francisco's Oregon hat).

We've had a guided tour of the neighborhood... with heroic murals, this one of Jose Marti (google it)...

state passbook stores...

and diverse homes...

some nice flora (these being orquideas)....

and of course the vintage autos.

The sun has gone down on a very nice day, in a town where, as one vibrant matron told us,"when life is not so good you have to smile...

  2. I did google Jpse Marti. What a guy! What a story. Hard to imagine that he could accomplish so much with such variety and in so many places.
